Lake Cowboy Holds Off Pellicci Ace Hardware to Stay Perfect in Celly League Action

In the first of three games on Thursday night’s Celly League slate, Lake Cowboy skated to a 5-3 victory over Pellicci Ace Hardware, securing sole possession of the top spot in the standings with a 6-0 record. Despite missing offensive leaders Katelyn Roberts (PSU) and Bella Fanale (UM) from the lineup, Lake Cowboy found a way to get the job done and remain undefeated.

This was the second meeting between the two teams this season. Lake Cowboy took the first game in dominant fashion, 9-4, but this time Pellicci Ace Hardware came ready to battle.

Ace wasted no time getting the goal scoring going with a goal by Sam Mathe (LIU) off a goal mouth scramble. The original shot came from the blueline by Myah Krueger (SCSU) just 5 minutes into the game.  The Ace lead didn’t last long as Josie Hemp (UVM) evened the game at a goal a piece, scoring at 21:27 with the assist to Alexa Hanrahan (Assumption).

Shae Messner (Dartmouth) gave Lake Cowboy the 2-1 lead at 17:04, converting a setup from Ellie Zakrajsheck (UMD) and Justina Valentini (Assumption) on the power play.

But Lake Cowboy wound up scoring four answered first half goals to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Rachel Argerter Rachel Agerter (Assumption) scored with 2:54 to go in the half, assisted by Josie Linn (UNH) and Taylor Koeppl (St. Anselm). Messner found the net again at 1:55 completing a strong first period with her second of the game.

Pellicci Ace Hardware showed resilience in the second half. Shortly after, Greta Kropp Union) added an unassisted goal at 26:03, making it a two-goal game at 4-2. Kendall Hassler (MSU) cut the deficit to 4-3 with 13 minutes remaining in the game, raising the intensity at Braemar Arena. 

Lake Cowboy responded with a crucial insurance goal early in the second frame. Lola Reid (BU)found the empty net with 30-seconds left, sealing the 5-3 win.

Lake Cowboy's goaltenders split duties in the game. Sedona Blair (UNH) stopped all 6 shots she faced before Layla Hemp (UM) closed the game, making 5 saves on 8 shots. For Pellicci Ace Hardware, Grace Zahn (Dartmouth) stood tall under heavy fire, stopping 23 of 27 shots to keep her team in the game. For the game, Lake Cowboy outshot Pellicci Ace Hardware, doubling it up at  28-14.

With two games left for Lake Cowboy, they have clinched the Celly League title and carry a 6-0 record on the campaign.  Ace Hardware is now 3-3 and bunched up with Tradition Mortgage and MNHockeyTv in the middle of the league standings.
