Intensity Increases as TRIA, Lake Cowgirl Earn Hard Fought Wins
Edina, MN - Play resumed for week three of The Celly League with two more games on Tuesday night from Braemar Arena. TRIA evened their record to 2-2 while Lake Cowgirl improved to 4-0 on the season.
TRIA 3 REMAX Advantage Plus 1
A pair of 1-2 teams squared off for the first time this season. Both teams were looking to stop a two game losing skid and work their way back to the .500 mark.
REMAX opened the scoring about 8 minutes into the first half on Lauren Stenslie’s (UST) goal off a rebound in the crease area that flipped over goalie Kaitlin Groess (BSU) and plopped over the goal line. TRIA’s Choe Boreen (UST) evened the score at one with her 3rd goal of the season off a deflection low in the slot from an Olivia Paidosh (Dartmouth) shot from the point with just under 6 minutes remaining in the half.
The goal marked the third time in four games that Stenslie has dented the twine. Turnovers were plentiful for TRIA and they were bailed out nicely by Groess in the first half who made 22 saves in her 30 minutes of play.
REMAX goalie Annika Lavender (St. Michaels) has played every minute in goal for her team this year and was sterling throughout the game making 29 saves. The game was tied at one late into the contest and it was Allie Franco (Minnesota) who scored the game-winning goal with 7:03 to go in the game. Franco’s Golden Gopher teammate Lauren O’Hara added the insurance policy less than two minutes later to lock the game up for TRIA.
Goalie Hailey Hanson (MSU) was perfect in the second half for TRIA in turning aside 16 REMAX shots for another scoreless evening of work. She has posted back-to-back shutout outings after allowing five against Ace Hardware and one to Tradition Mortgage.
The win propelled TRIA to third place in the league standing.
Lake Cowgirl 4 Tradition Mortgage 1
Lake Cowgirl continued their winning ways as they have jumped out to a league leading 4-0 start to the season with 4-1 win over Tradition Mortgage. Jada Habish (UCONN) had 1 goal and 2 assists to pace all scorers while goalie Sedona Blair (UNH) continued her stifling play in goal, turning aside 21 of 22 shots to increase her save percentage to a league leading .947 save percentage.
Nina Steigauf (Quinnipiac) continued her torrid goal scoring pace with her 4th of season. The goal was a top shelf beauty that beat Tradition goalie Lauren Larson (Sacred Heart) 25 minutes into the fist half. Habisch scored after Josie Hemp (Vermont) broke up a play on the left wing wall and quickly moved the puck to Habisch who walked in and buried the puck upstairs to beat Tradition goalie Anna Larose (Lindenwood) for the 2-0 lead. Hemp had two assists in the game.
Tradition Mortgage fought back on a blast from Meridith Benson (Dartmouth) to pull Tradition within a goal at 2-1. Lake Cowgirl rebounded with two straight goals, one by Maddy Clough (UST) and the second by Peyton Hemp (Minnesota). Lake Cowgirl will be in action on Thursday against Ace Hardware which is a battle for first place. Tradition Mortgage will battle against TRIA in the night cap.
