ACE WINS CUP AGAIN
Edina, MN - Ace Hardware won a hard fought Celly Cup Championship by downing TRIA 3-1 to claim their second cup in as many seasons. There was no doubt about the passion to win from each team as they played with pace and grit, minding all three zones, while displaying their skill and Celly League experience.
Ella Boerger (UST) had a goal and an assist to pace the way for Ace. She finished the season with 5g-10-15 points and elevated her game when her team needed her most with 3g-1a-4pts in two playoff games.
Boerger, Taylor Otremba (MSU) and Kiana Roeske (MSU) were holdovers from Ace last year and all three made the first team All Celly Team this year. When asked after the game how it felt to win the Cup again, Roeske said, “Unreal, it’s really cool to do it again, there is a lot of pressure, is Ace going to do it again? We had a great group this year and it was really fun.”
It is easy to look at the progression the players make from year-to-year as it plays out on the ice.. “It’s super exciting going from last year being an underclassmen for both of us and now being upperclassmen, it is fun to see how the league changes as it goes on,” Otremba said.
Once the skates were unlaced, most of these players will head off to their college season and play another year while some will play in the Celly League Dangle League all-star game to close out the year on Monday August 18th at 7pm.
Ace finished the season with a 7-1-1 record and led the league in goals scored with 49. The next closest team was Lake Cowgirl with 29. The winners of The Celly League were awarded the Celly Cup and each player also received a Celly League engraved Stanley Mug courtesy of Ace Hardware
